McIntyre (b.1910, Dunedin-d. 1995, Wellington) attended the Slade School of Fine Art in London and served in WWII before returning to New Zealand in 1946 to engage in a long career as a professional portrait and landscape painter, eschewing modernism and modern art. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1970 for services to the arts.
